2002-08-14 03:55:00 | Hi all. I bought a new PCI GEFORCE 2 MX Pro to replace my Voodoo3 card - but once i physically installed it and turned the power on nothing happened. The hard drive light flickered for a bit but no picture and the PC didn't go thru normal bootup. I thought I had fried something important but when I reinstalled my Voodoo3 card - all worked normally? I've tried it three times now and it seems to slot ok?

2002-08-14 04:35:00 | check in bios if "Assign IRQ to VGA" is enable. sorry i can't remember if voodo3's needed it but usually nvida does. is the onboard graphics disabled or was it running as a dual video setup? i would be inclinded to remove any other pci cards in the system before installing the new vid card.

2002-08-14 04:39:00 | i can see what Chilling_Silence was mixed up with. they don't make pci GF2 pro vid cards only GF2mx. his being a GF2mx 'pro'. the pro is just a fancy slaesman logo.

2002-08-14 05:12:00 | Onboard graphics was disabled - anyway to alter BIOS without a reboot? My other PCI is the network card

2002-08-14 05:36:00 | Did you change to the standard VGA driver before removing the Voodoo card? - the GEFORCE card won't like the Voodoo drivers. The process would be something along the lines of: 1) change to standard VGA driver and reboot. 2) remove any Voodoo drivers and reboot. 3) power off the PC and change over the video card. 4) power up the PC and follow the install instructions for the GEFORCE card.

2002-08-14 06:57:00 | All versions of Windows hate changing from a Voodoo card to an NVidia card. You need to do as wrecker Jim says as well as one more thing which can cause problems. Start up MSConfig and go to the Startup Tab and Disable the loading of 3DFX Tools. Once you have got everything going with the Standard VGA drivers delete the entire 3DFX folder from your machine then go into your Inf/Other folder and remove the inf for the Voodoo card from there as well. then install new card. | John Grieve (367) | |
