70879 2002-08-14 03:00:00 I use Netscape 4.7 for emails. I saved my email directory before upgrading the system with a new HDD

After setting up the Netscape from fresh, when I opened netscape using my existing old profile and accessed the mails, the error message says that I do not have the authority to access it.

Is there any way I can open the old emails and addresses after re-installing the Netscape?

It is possible that the index for your email has become corrupt . Take these steps:

1 . Close Messenger, go to the Start menu, and choose Find, then Files or Folders .
2 . In the Look in: field, type the drive that Communicator was installed to (in most cases, this will be C:\) .
3 . In the Named: field, type * . snm and click Find Now .
4 . If the results are Inbox . snm, Drafts . snm, etc . , you have completed the procedure correctly . If the files do not have file extensions, double check that you typed * . snm , then delete everything found by clicking Edit, then Select all, then File, then Delete . Finish deleting the files by clicking Yes .
5 . Reopen Communicator, go to Messenger and see if your email reappears . It may take a few minutes for to rebuild the . snm files and display your old email .

NOTE: The . snm files are the index files or placeholders for your email . They are not your actual inbox, drafts, etc . , and may be safely deleted .
