70842 2002-08-13 22:51:00 This question relates to limitations that Win 95 had when it was first released before any service packs. I know the it didn't have USB support, and I don't think it had AGP support. can you please let me know of any other ones. Annoyances.com gave me nothing.

:)

For the record it is for a very important assignment (as all assigments are important)

Thanks

70843 2002-08-13 22:57:00 I think if I remember rightly (correct me if I'm wrong) W95 had a hard disk 3gb limit and 512mb memory limit Elwin Way (229)

i always find it ammuseing the amount of old wives tales there is with pc's

mates pc has 4gig hd drive, agp, matrox agp video card and came out with w95 factory standard.

you can get usb for win95 tho the only pc's i've seen with win95&usb they never bothered to use the usb! from what i understand its a bit dodgy.

ram wise, win95 can address up to 2gig(roughly, in real life it has a few probs once it gets above 1gig)

but, think about this for a mo, when 95 was king(pre win98) how many pc motherboards could take more than 512meg? not many. how many peopple could have aforded to pay for 512meg ram? even less.

don't confuse hardware limits with software limits.

70845 2002-08-14 00:29:00 Aha. Thanks for clearing that up.

The confusion probably comes from OEMs who make PC's specifically for windows. So when one says you can only install 512m RAM, but don't say why, one is led to assumptions.

Think too, that windows uses a swap file. Does that have a physical limit apart from harddrive size?

70846 2002-08-14 00:50:00 Tweak you wouldn't happen to know where I could find out how many copies of Windows 95 was sold in the first month of its release,

In fact you would happen to know any interesting facts about it would you. Please saying win 95 is crap is common knowledge and I doubt it would get any marks for it.

:D

no doubt microsoft will have that sort of info (the usual pro microsoft press release) let a search engine guide you :)

70848 2002-08-14 02:04:00 Windows 95a first release was limited to FAT16 system, so as tweake said hard drive limit was 2GB.

FAT32 appeared with the OEM OSR2 version.

Win95C had IE4 and an active desk top like Win98.

Probably lots of other limitations with Win95a, if I remember I'll post them

Cheers

i don't think that was me but thx anyway ;\

this really shows up my limitations....i don't think i have ever used win95a (thankfully ;))

70851 2002-08-14 05:10:00 OSR2 was for OEM use only. It included USB, but I don't think it worked. But at that stage, the hardware wasn't working very well either. Graham L (2)
