70800 2002-08-13 13:34:00 Hi, just to dispell any myths about me being a topic cop, (and because I'm bored) I've decided to start, along the lines of daily news and WFTW, the above subject.

I'll start with Regnus (transband.co.uk) from RJB Software (transband.co.uk). For some reason this program is really popular. Why, I can't figure out. Hell, I can't even figure out what this program is for!

Regnus is a powerful Random English Generator, which has thousands of words, and 12 different known structures. It is, by all accounts, very funny, and is RJB Software's most downloaded program. 1000s of words, 12 structures, the ability to save and copy the text.

Those are their words. And they only have one other download!

It's a small download at 70-something kb. I advise to download directly to the desktop and extract the 3 files as close to the recycle bin as possible, so as to reduce the energy used in deleting it.

I ran this program for all of 10 seconds before I got bored with it. Not bad for someone who has read the Theory of Relativity. If you do decide to keep it, could you post here what you use it for and enlighten us all?

Cheers.

70801 2002-08-13 22:35:00 I thought the most useless app was the trial of PartitionMagic - takes long enough to download, only to find that it is completely useless unless you fork out the money to register it.

70802 2002-08-13 22:50:00 I'm not counting that because:

1- PM demo is exactly that. Not a full featured free program
2- PM (working) is a very usefull and excellent app
3- PM demo can be fixed to make it work. Don't ask how cos I'm not telling.

70803 2002-08-13 22:51:00 I agree with Mike. The Partition Magic trial is an utterwaste of bandwidth and magnetic particles.

70804 2002-08-13 23:02:00 Well, maybe I'll put it on next weeks.

But let's face it guys (and gurls) PM's (not talking about Helen Clark, but there are similarities in usefulness...) sole purpose is to partition. Once you done your partitions, you effectively don't need it anymore, unless you want to resize etc

What's the point in making an excellent piece of software, only to have the masses download it, use it once, then throw it away? That's what not makes money.

If anybody wants to know, Partition Magic is probably the best way to create / resize / delete partitions the easy way from within Windows and without losing data. (Scott, back me up please?) :D

bollacks! the info alone is worth the download. very very handy for anyone looking at doing any partitioning or dual boot.

70806 2002-08-14 00:45:00 Why bother with the download. It has been on a few cover discs. I agree that once used, it becomes redundant.
Bye

70807 2002-08-14 03:15:00 My approach to PartMag. has always been the same, waiting for it to come out on a freebie CD.

(Oh one of those "free, free, free for me,me,me people) LOL :)

70808 2002-08-14 04:21:00 Sensible approach. By the time it is "free" on a cover CD (usually because the next version is out) the bugs will be known, and there will be fixes for them. Graham L (2)
70809 2002-08-14 04:52:00 Audiogalaxy... now that it has shut down, why bother with the satellite proggy? ;)

Get WinMX instead! :D hehehe....
