| 70588 | 2002-08-13 06:43:00 | Recently had a corrupt file on my sys. Had to search thru cab files to find & extract a clean copy of the file. Took a while searching thru all the cabs – Win98SE. Wanted to find a packing list for the cab files. Tried a search at ms knowledge base but couldn’t find anything – how unusual! It’s not often that I find exactly what I’m looking for at that site. Can anyone tell me where I would find a list of the contents of each cab file. Would be much easier than searching thru all until you happen on the right one. |

| 70589 | 2002-08-13 07:36:00 | Hi, yes the Knowledge Base has a hopeless search engine. If you look at the bottom of articles you will see a "Keywords" section which I think their searches are based on. Often these have little relation to what you want to find. I have found more through Google than I ever have by the KB. Anyway, onto your question.... The list of the contents of each CAB is in the KB, spanning 14 different pages. Of course, the articles arent consecutive nor do they have links to other articles ;-) so Ive provided all the links that I could find 4 u. | 70591 | 2002-08-13 09:47:00 | Thanks for your help. I did eventually find the file I was after but I had to wade thru about 40 odd cab files in the search. I wanted to have a listing in case a similar thing happened again and I would know exactly what cab file to go to. BTW what search criteria did you use to come up with those gems. I find the MS knowledge base a nightmare to find anything. :8} Cheers OM Hubbard |

| 70592 | 2002-08-13 09:52:00 | Windows wasn't looking for the file in that I didn't get the box asking where sys was to copy the need file from so had to locate the file myself. Knew the name of the file I need, just didn't know which cab file it was in. Hence the question about what files were contained in each cab. Cheer OM Hubbard |

Of course that was only one article and had no links to the others so I copied all the Keyword text from the bottom of that article and put that into the KB search and came up with most of the other links. Like you I'm at a loss with the KB at most times. They must be on a different wavelength. I found Google really good. At times I have had an error like "Explorer error at adress 354345 etc" and when putting in the exact error wording I often find a hit which links to some KB article. Doing so in the KB search itself will result in ..... "sorry no hits". Even if the bloody article has tose very words in its heading. Go figure? cheers Parry |
