| 71008 | 2002-08-14 10:05:00 | I have "lost" my primary and secondary IDE drivers so that WIN98 can't find my two CD drives. It has happened two or three times now and I have to reload win98 to get them back. Two questions. Any ideas why WIN98 loses the drivers (could it be a flaky motherboard)? Any ideas on a quick way to reinstall them. I try to "update" the drivers but win98 only says the current drivers are the best available. |

| 71011 | 2002-08-15 09:05:00 | My hardware is PIII450 CPU 384 megs of ram viper 770 video card SCSI card (for the scanner) 20 gig hard drive . external modem network card Asonic sound card CD reader HP 9300 cd writer The computer blew up about 18 months ago and large hunks were replaced by the insurance company . I think most of the bits came from the kamakozoo factory as reliability was never too hot afterwards with lock ups and shutdown problems . I have replaced the CPU, memeory and video card since the meltdown and still get occasional lockups . The motherboard and Asonic sound card is the only thing left from the insurance repairs so I wondered if a flakey motherboard could be affecting things as it is the only common thread for the lockups after all the bits were replaced . The bios detects the CD's but WIN98 doesn't . The error message in control panel/systems is "the device is not present, not working properly or does not have all the drivers installed (code 10) . Try upgrading the drivers . " I must admit I don't understand why the hard drive is there but not the CD's Ian |

| 71013 | 2002-08-16 07:47:00 | No. One cd is on the secondary channel and the other is on the same cable as the hard drive. The CD with the hard drive has been playing up and I thought that the laser must be dirty or something. Possibly there is another gremlin at work |

| 71015 | 2002-08-17 05:08:00 | hm no luck. I think I will try a clean install of windows. SOme of my other games are having problems finding 3ddraw support and my video card should do that. Hence time to start again. |
