70981 2002-08-14 05:52:00 Try right clicking on "My Computer", should be right there under system properties, as least thats where it is for Win2000.

70983 2002-08-14 06:06:00 In XP thats not the same as the CD Key, by a mile - on mine.

Can I ask the obvious, why do you not have it, if it was pre-installed it would be on the PC case, as we dont encourage pirating here...

70984 2002-08-14 06:10:00 godfather has done it again.

that is only the product ID not the windows key.

X-setup can display it (not 100% sure with XP)

very handy in case someone/something (eg cat) has removed the label off the the pc.

and no its not pirateing either.

70986 2002-08-15 01:09:00 I've seen plenty of cases where dodgy techs do not give the CD key to the punter, and people forget to look .Dodgy tech then on sells to someone else! Ferroshus (842)
70987 2002-08-15 01:16:00 heard of that happening, also know of customers complaining and microsoft sueing the techs for doing it. tweak'e (174)
70988 2002-08-15 04:00:00 Don't Microsoft like the market economy? Graham L (2)
70989 2002-08-15 04:24:00 graham- the techs are often installing the same copy on different machines which is why they were sued.

or what proberly what happens now with XP activation is to give cust the cd but no key, make copy of cd and use the key with the copied cd at a later date.

either way microsoft gets annoyed(so do customers).
