71000 2002-08-14 08:22:00 Hi, can anybody kindly help with a minor problem, i have done a search of F1, but not found any settings for xp!! When i am using the mic in 'Netmeeting' or such the sound is coming through good but i am finding i can hear myself echo (i guess thats what i would call it) in the background on the speakers after talking. And I am sure there is some simple setting to stop this, maybe mic in ?? - can anybody enlighten me as to what i change to stop this??? Thanks J ZEP (336)
71001 2002-08-14 08:46:00 I'd say that theres is nothing that can solve this problem, I have heard a number of complaints similar to this where I work and I recommend getting the headsets so that the microphone can't pick up the noise from the speakers which causes the feedback or in your situation the echo. You can get a verbatim headset for only $15 and that had the microphone attached to the headset all in one, order you can just try a basic pair of headphones and see if that gets rid of the problem.

Best of Luck

71002 2002-08-14 09:34:00 Thanks Grant, yep i had actually been using a headset with mic, because the mic i had wasn't very good, and it was with that i was getting the prob, the sound still comes through the speakers, i must look into it further so i can get the sound through the headset instead of the speakers but i really wanted it coming through the speakers so my partner and i could both hear (in one case anyway) - i presume there must be some way to switch from headset sound to speakers and vice versa or just turn the speakers off i guess would solve it??? Thanks anyway - i did think i had heard of a way around this on here, by changing a setting, but must have been mistaken. Thanks J ZEP (336)
71003 2002-08-14 09:37:00 Hi J Zep . . I've seen this problem many times on F1 . . There sure is a solution, apart from using the headphones/mic suggestion .

Investigate the 'Vol control' in the lower right sys tray . Double click on that & you will see the 'Play control' . . . This controls what is heard from the speakers . You will notice that the inputs can be ' muted', so to avoid the feedback you mention, 'Mute the mic' . . ok ?

In addition, by going to options | properties, you will find the 'Record control' This controls the inputs to be used for recording/talking programs . In this you need to ' Select' the required input, such as your mic for talking .

In this way, others can hear your mic, but it wont output to the speakers, so avoiding fedback .

71004 2002-08-14 21:47:00 Hello J Zep,

Quite a common problem this isnt it, Try placing the speakers away from around your microphone, I find behind the monitor is ok, and turn one speaker off by moving the balance lever left or rigt, on your volume controll.

I also found reducing the volume on your wave voulume controll helps too.

good luck,

Bob

71006 2002-08-15 07:28:00 Thanks for all the suggestions - i will give them a try when i get home!! I have got a feeling the suggestions Bazza gave are the ones i found in a search, but they didn't work for xp??? As, if i remember right, i couldn't get into the properties in xp (hopefully i am wrong)??? Thanks again to all I most appreciate the help and suggestions. J ZEP (336)
