71377 2002-08-16 02:35:00 I tested 2 computers for security vulnerabilities at Symantec (www.symantec.com) security2002. One with Winxp with Sygate Personal Firewall, the other with Win98se and no firewall. Firstly, they did not detect the correct IP address of either computer. Secondly, scanning for vulnerabilities produced the same results for both computers - They had been able to connect to my computer and it is vulnerable to malicious attack and recommended installing a firewall, which one computer already has.

I would be interested in hearing from other people who have tested their firewall at Symantec and the results of the test.

71378 2002-08-16 02:43:00 Davesdad,

I have used Steve Gibson site Gibson Research (grc.com) with ShieildsUp! and Leaktest testing carried out. I use a NAT based router with both firewalls and Intrusion detection software.

useually that means you are running through a proxy. its best not to for testing purposes otherwise you can get false readings.

>scanning for vulnerabilities produced the same results for both computers - They had been able to connect to my computer and it is vulnerable to malicious attack

which attack did it say u where vunuralable to? also if they ad wrong ip they may be scanning the wrong pc.

nortons seems to ALWAYS say your privacy is unprotected, unless you are useing norton firewall of course ;-)

try the grc one already posted. its only very simple, but its quick.use the ip agent.

there are other sites that do full scans (most u have to pay for) but they take a loooong time.

71380 2002-08-16 04:30:00 The grc test works well. Detected the correct IP address and said the firewalled computer is secure. What would be interesting to know is the result of the Symantic test on a computer with Norton Firewall.
