| 71543 | 2002-08-17 05:43:00 | Removing the chat would be a disaster, but perhaps if the chat stays tech related. i.e. as said above, things like tech news, new processors etc. It seems as if alot of people post these off topc threads because they want the attention. Before you post your OTT, (Off Topic Thread) think - what use will it be to those reading it? If there is no real gain from posting it - don't. Do you like getting jokes in your email - I don't - heard them all before. So, don't post them here. The odd one mid thread that makes light of the topic being discussed is appropriate, but HUGE threads with several k=jokes is not so appropriate. Things like WFTWE and XYZday News are good, and a integral part of the forum, but people seem to be trying to increase the number of these types of posts almost to gain some kind of fame or notoriety. (No offence E.W., and I am not saying this is the case here, but your recent "app of the week" is one example). Don't get me wrong - I like the friendly environment, but as someone has already said - it is almost like everyone is trying to out-do each other with their specs/stories/etc. It is not the content I am talking about, but rather the quantity. Perhaps instead of trying to police the problem, everyone should just take this thread as a timely reminder of why we all came here in thefirst place. If everyone makes a little effort, the problem will solve itself, and we will still have the same fun friendly and definiitely NOT boring PressF1 we know and love. It is a fact that the more populated an area becomes, the more rules required. PressF1 has just got more populated recently. Instead of legislating, lets just make a community effort. There is obviously a problem or else we wouldn't have this thread (which has a fairly even split of opinion if you have a look). BTW I still think PF1 is da bomb. G P |

| 71544 | 2002-08-17 05:53:00 | Yes Graham. self regulatory yay!!!! I'm not afarid to say "excuse me but could we talk about something thats going to help the original poster" and i don't see why anyone else should be afraid to put things back on track, if needed either. Having said that, some times all that needs to be said has been said, and the silly tangent is a kind of refreshing after party........ |

| 71545 | 2002-08-17 06:41:00 | Self regulating!!!! ................. lower tax's and pay for health and education yourself. Sounds a bit like ACT to me. I don'tthink rules are really required for this forum. the fact that the culprits have already read this thread and understand, is enough. and like 20 other people have said. No one would want to fully limit the amount of general chit chat, but if someone asks a question only reply to it if you have an answer to it, and if someone has answered it but you can add more to it or a different view then post it. But if you have a general discussion then post it in a new thread, or join a discussion thread already going. Hands up if you agree. (Ya, Na) |

| 71549 | 2002-08-17 08:15:00 | Thank you Chilling Silence for speaking your mind. I avoid any postings originating from "teach me" and am suspicious of any postings with more than 10 replies. But I come back to Press F1 daily as I have done for the last two years. Just about everything I know about computers has been learned here. Antonia |
