Here's a bit more on the status of Windows XP SP1 and the non-functioning of pirate keys:
In an email sent to OEM system builders MS tells:

When released, Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Windows XP will not install if it identifies the underlying Windows XP installation as a known pirated installation . SP1 identifies known pirated installations by their Product IDs . The Product ID is generated from the Product Key used during install and can be found by choosing My Computer, then Properties, and viewing the General tab .

SP1 will not install on installations with the following product IDs containing the following serial numbers (note that X takes the place of any other value): XXXXX-640-0000356-23XXX, & XXXXX-640-2001765-23XXX . Users of licensed Microsoft software will be unaffected . If SP1 is installed on a Windows XP installation with one of the above product IDs, SP1 installation will fail and error with the following message: Service Pack 1 Setup Error: The product key used to install Windows is invalid .

A new Version of Mirc (Version 6 . 03) with the following changes:
* Improvements and new features:

The 'perform on connect' sorting mistake has been fixed, also the numeric 330 bug, the flickering menubar and toolbar, the ! on INPUT processing bug, the $read and a similar freeze bug with invalid filenames, a switchbar multi-line display bug, dcc ignore bug, a /timer bug, and a bug in the highlight feature are fixed . The $ticks has changed back to the old method because of a bug in Windows' high performance timer . . . *mumble*

Other fixes are the /load command that could trigger multiple on load events, a proxy authentication bug, the $asctime() bug, a small dcc server ignore bug, and an important memory bug in script parser, where mIRC checks if a script has been loaded/unloaded while a script is running .

mIRC now supports several IRCX events on any server that sends them, not just for IRCX servers, it will (again) try to rejoin a channel even if it was +i or +k, we improved the way mIRC determines what default web browser you use, rewrote the mark/copy routine, and added a $nick() . idle property that returns the idle time for a person on a channel . You can also use this idle time feature in the nick color list dialog in the addressbook!

I assume you know that you have to dig through the help file and the versions . txt file included with mIRC to learn about the complete list of changes and their impact? If you have questions, may I invite you to the Message Boards on mIRC's website? These discussion forums offer great help with everything related to mIRC and its features .

May I remind how in version 6 . 0 multi-server support was added? With this feature mIRC allows you to connect to multiple servers at the same time . You'll notice the 'Multi-Server' button that provides a couple of new options supporting this new feature . If you have not upgraded recently, this is the moment to get 6 . 03!

Here's a guide on How to make a slipstream copy of XP work fine:
Anyone who tried to slipstream xp always stopped when xp required activation . I burned a lot cd's but always the same problem . But finally the solution is here in only 4 steps .

1 . Perform a slipstream update to your Corp XP .

2 . Use a new key (not the fckgw) .

3 . From the SP1 files found 2 named IPSELPID . DLL and IPSELDPC . DLL . Rename the first one to:PIDGEN . DLL and the second to DPCDLL . DLL . Now copy these two files into your I386 directory into a slipstreamed XP and overwrite the existing files .

4 . Just burn the damn cd!

I've tried this with SP1 Build 1090 and it works fine!!!

A new leaked Windows XP SP1 is out . This is build 1097 and Driverheaven ( . driverheaven . com/) has posted a few FTP address where you can download but most have a limit of 3 or 6 max . There's also a direct link here (http://members . directvinternet . com/dvdking/1097_xpsp1 . exe" target="_blank">www . driverheaven . com/) has posted a few FTP address where you can download but most have a limit of 3 or 6 max . There's also a direct link here (http:) but be patient as it will get very busy . This build they say includes the SSL security fix . If you have one of the serials listed in the news post above, then you may want to have a look at this Guide to changing your XP Key ( . labmice . net/WindowsXP/articles/changeID . htm" target="_blank">www . labmice . net) .

72027 2002-08-17 11:02:00 tweake'e, last week I let it go as a typo, but this week, I can't.

Saturday is spelt with a "u", not an "e" S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y.

You'll get the hang of it after awhile. :D

72031 2002-08-17 23:08:00 Leave tweak'e alone Graham .

He's fast becoming my only source of amusement on this forum, thanks to the topic police . Now you want tweak'e knocked into shape as well . I don't believe it .

72033 2002-08-18 02:22:00 In case you didn't realise I was taking the proverbial piss.

Christ - everyone seems to be getting touchy.

Ill just go and remove all the "smart" keys off my keyboard.

That way, I won't get in trouble for being a smart-alec.

72034 2002-08-18 03:26:00 more than welcome to be "smart", at least it puts smiles on faces :) tweak'e (174)
72035 2002-08-18 04:14:00 T'other Graham beat me to it, tweak'e . To help you remember, think about Saturnalia , which is the sort of thing we might be getting up to if we weren't misbehaving here .

It's the it's which should be its that get me . . . and they're not tweak'e's fault . . . (Likewise Cd's ) . Why is it that people who write about computer things seem to have learnt about apostrophes from greengrocers? :_|
