| 71930 | 2002-08-17 06:15:00 | After lots of good helpful advice about updating my peice of &*(& Voodoo 3 card on my PIII 550 machine - I finally went down to THE PC COMPANY lured in by an add in the paper (who sez advertising doesn't work) and the guy twisted my rubber arm into me ordering a P4 2.0Ghz with 80G 7200 Haed Drive, 512MB of DDR266 RAM, DVD player, CD burner blah blah anf crowned off with a 128Mb GEForce 4 Ti4200 TV card. I guessed as the graphics card had the same RAM as my original PC it must fututre proof me for a while. Have I done the right thing laying out $3,600 for it? I assume it will fly for games like SOF 2 when it arrives? Any comments gratefully received. | taxboy4 (579) | ||
| 71931 | 2002-08-17 07:23:00 | that is a really good price for the parts, but do you really need 512mb? and an 80gb hdd? these parts are for the ultra user of the computer and the graphics card, why not get something like a Geforce MX. The ti is good but it would be cheaper if you had an mx, there won't be a real big difference in the quality of the video cards. If the pc you want is a top end pc why not try PB computers, they offer: -Pentium 4 2.2GH 512mb ddr 80gb hdd 64mb ddr Geofrce 4 mx400 32x10x40 cd rewriter +17inch flatscreen monitor for the whole package costs $3199 cheers, v.K------------ :D |

| 71934 | 2002-08-17 09:29:00 | Thanks - I had heard mixed things about the company so I got a 3 year warranty - parts and labour etc. The thing is - whatever I think is bloody great (re performance) now will be mediorce in 2 years time. Hate to think what will be standard then. | taxboy4 (579) | ||
| 71935 | 2002-08-17 09:42:00 | sounds good. the 512 meg ram will be needed and thankfully you got a decent vid card not one of those slowmo g4mx's. the BIG downfall with PCcompany pc's are their cases. very poor airflow resulting in very high temps. |
