71752 2002-08-16 21:12:00 Norton personal firewall 2001 will not let me view webpages in internet explorer. How do I create a rule that will allow this. DOMWLC (1531)
71753 2002-08-21 22:34:00 zonealarm is free and works better too kiwibeat (304)

kiwibeat, replies like this are unnecessary and don't help the situation at all. And are very very biased. Sure Zonealarm is a good firewall, if you can get it to work without bugging you all the time, but I'd be surprised if many would fine that it works better than NPF.

71755 2002-08-22 07:43:00 Tests prove that zonealarm is more effective than nortons firewall thats a fact not a opinion kiwibeat (304)
71756 2002-08-22 07:52:00 www.hackguard.net kiwibeat (304)
71757 2002-08-22 08:22:00 > www.hackguard.net

that page compares ZA Pro with NPF - ZA Pro is not the free one...

Also that it rates BlackIce up there with NPF in my mind reduces the credibility. :D

71758 2002-08-22 09:35:00 The free one is much the same the pro version just allows networked PCs ,plus has a few extra bells and whistles kiwibeat (304)

For more details, I actually use the pro version and find it very secure when tested against probes ,

71760 2002-08-22 10:06:00 Sorry, DOMWLC it looks like your post got hijacked...

I dont use NPF but believe you just go to the "internet Access control" and allow it to let IE access the net.

71761 2002-08-22 11:04:00 sorry kiwibeat but I beleive the original post was how to fix the problem with Norton Personal Firewall not which firewall should I use?. The person posting this obviously has a problem with the software they are using and probably even using by choice.
Advising them to dump one product for another is not helping it is just pushing your personal opinion.
Yes Zonealarm is good, Norton Personal Firewall is also good as well as Agnitums Outpost and Kerio's firewall and several hundred others we may never hear about. For every test that shows one firewall or program is the best there is another that shows the opposite.

As to the topic of the original post I beleive Godfather may be on the right track, Check your permissions and the internet acess control and maybe even the ad blocking settings if that doesn't solve the problem or you could also look at the Norton/Symantec site here (http://www.symantec.com) and then follow throught the service and support section.
If none of this helps then perhaps you could let us know what OS and version on Personal Firewall you are using and what type of connection you have ( dial up etc ) and also the actual error message is generally helpful too
