71824 2002-08-16 23:39:00 your ISP will offten give you web space or you could try ww.geocities.com robsonde (120)
71825 2002-08-16 23:51:00 There was someone offering free webhosting about a week ago on F1. Scan thru the posts. I think Orcon does it as well, Geocities also.... Search on Google. Baldy (26)
71826 2002-08-17 00:25:00 Hey, I have my own website and I use geocities, by Yahoo!.
It is a very good tool and it's free! The only prob is that the adress given is really long, so when you.ve made your website go to www.cjb.com.
This is a redirection site so basically, when someone enters this it will take it to your site on geocities:d

71827 2002-08-17 01:50:00 Usually you still need some knowledge of HTML to create a webpage with the software (though not always). You can get free software off the internet so save your money.

There are plenty of free hosting options.

Your ISP.

71828 2002-08-17 01:59:00 cheap software for making websites are usually ^%^%^
.........you gets what you pay for.
The free ones are usually as good. Theres heaps out there that will do it, including the site designers built into some of the free hosts pagages.

71829 2002-08-17 03:14:00 I agree that the free web building software is very basic, I used a free builder called WebWeaverEZ (http://www.mcwebsoftware.com) which while great for me to use because no HTML was needed was very basic in its abilities. The program won't even open a web page with frames etc but is good for creating basic pages and does rpovide for anchors, links etc .
I had to get hold of Frontpage to do some finishing touches like frames etc. Still the basic builders can be handy for us beginners just if trying different ones out be careful as some plaster very large advertising all over your site till you purchase their upgraded version.

71831 2002-08-17 04:04:00 What is the software at the warehouse. If you let us know we can probably tell you if it is crap or not.

As for putting it on a website. You would use some form of FTP

71832 2002-08-17 04:12:00 firstly, loaded into windows you will probably find frontpage express it works, and will get you making websites . Have a play with it .

secondly, using this, or whatever software you settle on, you will make a folder on your HD somewhere, which contains the pages, images etc . using an ftp program you then upload to "ftp . yoursite . orcon . net . nz" . Presise details are on the orcon site . whenever you make a change, you just upload the . htm file and relevant images etc

i strongly suggest that you put your images in a folder called images, or something from the start . it saves alot of confusion if things are tidy right from the start
another trap, decide from the moment you start weather to call your files . htm or . html and stick to it . . i've battled with endless confusion because i link to a page . htm instead of page . html or visa versa due to inconsistancy that i only have myself to blame for . . .
Anyway have a play with frontpage express, you'll start to see what it does, and meet these traps soon . . .
