The majority of the time it fixes the problem. Sometimes it doesn't. |

Normally I do it slightly different to the instructions, I actually cut/paste the SoftwareDistribution folder to another location,instead of renaming, say the desktop, then once working you can delete it. In normal mode you HAVE to run the stop the windows service command as administrator, if the service is not stopped it wont work. Running in safe mode, the service doesn't actually start, thats why you cant update windows in safe mode, you should be able to rename the folder without any problems in safe mode, restart normally then try the updates again. Edited: when you ran the CMD commands did the service actually stop? You should the message exactly like the pic below ( word for word) 4442 |

| 1310023 | 2012-11-01 08:39:00 | Good its working :) In non technical terms, something gets corrupted or "stuck" in the folder. Learnt from experience, don't muck about, try the quickest first with that problem, if that fails then roll up the sleeves ;) |
