Clearly the men with the money disagree with you.

How does that make it any less of a douchebag situation?

The "money men" should be kicked out along with him, and the money invested in the talent coming through that have dedicated their lives to wearing the jumper. We are not short of talent, and the team should win or lose based on their abilities, Not on spending money on hired guns.

1286763 2012-07-09 04:26:00 So?

Just because the system can be exploited by players and the board for personal gain and glory doesn't mean we are obligated to endorse it.

Pointing out there is a business structure in place doesn't instantly remove expectations of good will, nor the expectations of the public and NZ rugby at all levels which the All Blacks represent on the world stage.

In a team of champions SBW was nothing outstanding, Why cheapen over a 100 years of tradition just for his crap?

The "men with the money" have a different agenda, which involves getting bums on seats in the various stadia and TV rights sold at extortionate prices.

Whereas the "man in the street" is interested in supporting a team who can earn respect by doing the hard yards and going the extra mile.

1286764 2012-07-09 04:28:00 Next world cup the money men are just going to hire the entire winning state of origin side and put them through rugby camp a week before the tournament..... Metla (12)
1286765 2012-07-09 04:33:00 and that is why the sport does not interest me now as well as all the rule changes. I think the game has lost some of the flair it had because the players worry about the consequences if they stuff up.

I take your point Mike.

As someone who has attended nearly every major Rugby Venue here and in Aus I must admit I no longer show the same interest.

Your right about the rules. Whereas I used to know them backwards I’m buggered if I can follow them now. The other thing that gets up my nose is the continuing fiddling with the team’s colours. They play in Pink one week and Purple the next, why I have no idea. Yes I know, League is no better and possibly worse.

I’ve never shown much interest in the “Kick it with your head Chum” game but as far as I can see their rules haven’t changed that much in the last 100 years but their acting has certainly improved. ;)

Arghhh, yes, but, the man with the money needs the man in the street to place his bum on the seat or he’ll go broke.

So far the man with the money is winning because there are enough men in the street prepared to pay his prices, which allows him to pay the players big money whilst keeping plenty himself. ;)

In short, it is all market driven and a far cry from the Amateur Years.

But it’s not all about SBW. There are hundreds if not thousands of elite professional sportsmen, from various codes, out there who are negotiating new contracts at this very moment.

1286767 2012-07-09 05:15:00 Guys’ professional sport is actually a business now .

Your working life is short and you simply have to fit a lifetime’s wages in about 10 years after which time you’re on the scrapheap unless you can get a job coaching or with the media .

His decisions are purely business orientated through his manager and like any business if you can get a better deal changing suppliers then you’re a mug not to take it because if you don’t someone else will .

As opposed to amateur sport, loyalty only becomes a consideration if the remuneration is about the same .

Good luck SBW, long may you entertain both your supporters and your knockers .

Well said .

(Bugger me, something we agree on . Not April 1st is it ?)

I think you'll find we all have the same agenda just different measures, the agenda is success, the measure may be financial or position on the league table. I suspect the man in the street would be happy for any advantage they get whether it be hard earned or well bought.
