Likely they buy them because "it looks better" rather than if it runs Photoshop.

Function over form is my preference though!

Do you see a major gap in the range of hardware (performance wise) in Apple computers?

Look at the the big companies even IT firms. We would never consider getting a computer made up for us from a computer shop. We are mac and dell at work. Dells apart from the office computers are all workstations that are supplied to us with the different CTP, wide format and digital machines running either XP or Solaris. We have too much software invested to switch too windows in our prepress/design area. And the cost of the same mac/dell work station is about the same. Although we haven't purchased a new workstation in over 4years I think. Currently in the process of putting SSD in the mac pros o get a little bit longer out of them. plod (107)

Was meaning getting a pre configured unit from the likes of Dell or Mac and choose the upgrades than getting off a store like Ascent, CL etc ... Of course wasn't referring to Harvey Norman and the likes ...

1286952 2012-07-08 09:17:00 I use a Mac to slowly drive myself insane :devil

But in all seriousness, my girlfriend has a MacBook and I don't see anything it does that Windows doesn't already do well...

1286953 2012-07-08 09:21:00 I bought one a few years back after all the hype about how superior for music it was.... I simply couldn't see or more importantly hear the difference...
and believe me, when you spend that kind of coin you hope it works well, fortunately the resale factor came into play and still got a fairly decent price and got me a pretty awesome set up for the same price and went back to PC. Most of PC issues are user related in my eyes.
