1286792 2012-07-10 05:02:00 Would this be the same SBW who barely payed in the whole tournament, and when he came on in the semifinal was yellow carded almost instantly? (www.dailymail.co.uk)

From sky tv stats page

12. Sonny Bill Williams (centre, Canterbury, 26, 12 caps, 4 tries, 5 RWC matches, 4 RWC tries)
- Debut Rugby World Cup.
- Played in all of New Zealand's RWC 2011 matches, starting at centre against Tonga and Canada (scoring one try against Canada), starting at wing in the quarter-final against Argentina and coming on as a replacement against Japan and France (scoring two tries against Japan and one try against France).
- His three tries as a replacement is a RWC record.

Just shows one yellow card (almost) doesnt make a whole tournament...and for a man who barely played he didn't do too bad to play in every game the NZ played. Memories eh, funny how they're not always that accurate....

1286793 2012-07-10 05:11:00 When Sonny Bill Williams runs out with Sydney Roosters next season, he won't be doing so for the money - but there are plenty of NRL clubs hoping to cash in on his return .

Williams, who was being lauded by the likes of Laurie Daley, Nathan Brown and Gorden Tallis as a future great and potentially one of the best league players ever during his debut season in 2004, all but confirmed his return to the code at a press conference yesterday .

''This is due to a handshake agreement made a few years ago before I even came back to New Zealand with an NRL club,'' Williams said .

"I haven't signed anything yet and I'm not in a position to elaborate on that . "

While he didn't name Nick Politis, the Sydney Roosters supremo is the person with whom Williams made the handshake deal three years ago, while he was still playing rugby union in France .

Already, Canterbury - the club Williams famously walked out on in 2008 - are believed to be seeking to host the Roosters in round one next year .

The finer details of Williams' agreement with the Roosters are yet to be completed but the deal, which is expected to be worth about A$800,000 a season, is far less than Williams could earn elsewhere .

For proof, look no further than the US$1 . 2 million deal with Japanese rugby powerhouse Panasonic Wild Knights he confirmed yesterday . Williams is expected to make about 12 appearances for the Wild Knights, while he could play 30 premiership and finals matches for the Roosters for much less .

In fact, he could make more money from boxing - and may well do so, with the New Zealand heavyweight champion expected to fight in November during a break in Japan's Top League competition, possibly in South Africa, where he is a massive name .

The Stormers, based in Cape Town, are also believed to have been keen on Williams' services, while Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal has made no secret of his desire to get the 26-year-old back to the French Top 14 club .

Williams rejected an offer worth $2m a season to stay at Toulon when he signed with the NZRU for a deal reportedly worth about $NZ550,000 a season two years ago .

With Williams proving a huge drawcard off the field and his undoubted talents on it, it can be argued that the NZRU got a bargain and officials have made it clear they want him back for the 2015 World Cup . Yet since he walked out on his $400,000 a year contract with the Bulldogs, Williams has often been portrayed as a money hungry mercenary .
So maybe its not all about the money, then what is it all about? Clearly not loyalty . And the NZRU are just mugs wanting him back for 2015 . He might draw a crowd, and he might look great to some girlies, but hes not a great rugby player which is what he should be judged on . Its all about ratings for the NZRU, its not about winning, just about how much can be made from playing .

1286794 2012-07-11 08:55:00 PR is part of the job, he gets paid big bucks for it. His name is on sponsorships etc so he has to be public good guy.... I dont think people hate him, just dislike his lack of loyalty, a team won the world cup, Sbw hardly won it himself. Far from it.

1286795 2012-07-11 09:12:00 @Globe. They could have had canterbury play Canade, Tonga, etc and have won. He might have played every game, but he didn't start in the main ones, and never had a large contribution. Nick G (16709)

ha ha ha, you guys are amazing. i thought we (the english) were negative and bad at beating up on our own team but bugger me, here is a guy who played in every game in the rwc and scored three tries as a sub (a record) and you're still slagging him off, ha ha ha , whats a man got to do for you lot, hilarious. Puts us to shame.

I seem to recall when we won the RWC everyone was important, everyone contributed and everyone was celebrated.

Whinging bloody kiwis is all i can say.

1286797 2012-07-11 09:31:00 I don't mind what or how he played unless someone acts like he won us the cup.
On a side note, did you hear what happened to Mark Boucher?

I'm wondering what your motivation for being such a twat is?

You have no knowledge of SBW from before the world cup, No comprehension of how we view the All Blacks, and you seem to think that lacking insight on any level makes you are the source for all qualified opinion on the world cup, and believe the common man has to adopt your ignorant opinions to achieve creditability.

I know you can't see it, But this is the very reason i don't go to the land of Poms and tell them how they should view soccer. Its cause I don't know **** about it and they would see through it immediately.

Get a better hobby, You suck at this one.

Its cause I don't know **** about it and they would see through it immediately. Clearly otherwise you would call it football as the rest of the world does. This isnt about knowing about the game its about people making choices and small minded sports fans not being able to accept those choices.

Get a better hobby, You suck at this one. I can try being a knobhead, got any tips as you seem to be the king at that ?

And you in particular make me laugh more than the others, you take a simple discussion about, well usually anything but in this case a rugby player, and you turn it into a slagging match where all you can do is insult other people as they do not agree with your opinion. Yes go on make some smart comment about me being a twat or a dick or whatever but take a good look at your record to date and you'll see what i mean. And of course you'll then tell me you don;t care and you're comfortable with your behavour, fine by me, I pity you. I must admit I am not surprised you are in HSE as often people in this field end up being righteous plonkers, who only see the world one way and if their view is opposed then they start to try and throw their weight around by bulying people. Remind you of anyone.

Now back to the thread, yea I did see about Boucher, real shame. I also saw the attempts to have another go at Lance Armstrong, 500 tests and still unproven, I thinks someone is out to get him...
