72131 2002-08-18 10:49:00 i figured that you are a "she" from your website....
formating removes everything, including the undifinable garbage. You start again, and everything works well for a while, basicly till you stuff things up again, and unless you are a compulsive downloader and tryer of neat programs, that while should be a long time.

over simplified, you take a copy of anything you want to keep, you boot of a floppy disk, you type format C, you lose absolutly everything on the HDD, you install windows, and you start fresh.

there is of course a bit more detail, but it's not worth going into that unless you decide that is the way to go..

Afriend in Dunedin had a clapped out old puter (but good screen/keyboard) He traded his cpu at Smiths City (not sure if there is one up your way or not) and h got it on HP as well.

72133 2002-08-18 11:06:00 when you say, "i might do another mag" are you talking A3 full color and glossy, or something along the lines of newpaper quality, only smaller?
for the former, i think your pushing it to do it on your machine.. but not impossible, you will have the occational inforced coffee break while the machine thinks about it. For the later, reformat, and i'm sure you'll be fine!

72134 2002-08-18 11:59:00 unity,

I think your best option is to try and reformat/resinstall. You could do it in a weekend, and it shouldn't cost you a penny except for the time. You caould also add an extra 128mb of RAM for around $100. You would then have a machine that would be likely to do what you want. All that just for a little bit of your time and $100.

If you decide to go down that path, I (and I'm sure others) would be happy to step you through the process.

As a side note - your posts would be easier to read if you broke things up into paragraphs. I am just sayoing this as the easier they are to read, the easier we can get the information from them in order to help.

Just makes my life easier.

72135 2002-08-18 12:52:00 Hi,

Before charging out and buying a new machine try a reformat and reinstall .

There are two sets of instructions in the FAQs (in the menu at the top of the page) .

The first is how to reformat ( . co . nz/thread . jsp?forum=1&thread=21541" target="_blank">pressf1 . co . nz)

The second is how to reinstall Windows 98 ( . co . nz/thread . jsp?forum=1&thread=22555" target="_blank">pressf1 . co . nz)

Have a read of them and see how you get on .

If the time comes to buy a new system - bits of the existing system can be reused . My husband's latest computer cost around $1,000 . We reused the monitor, software, network cable and sound card .

If you are buying a new machine it does pay to look at upgrading the software then though as it is cheaper than buying it later .
