72572 2002-08-20 02:51:00 ...no matter how much hair I pull out. I've got a pic in Arachnophilia (HTML Editor) in graphic files but the pages of my site are all html so I guess they have to be in the same folder inside Arach. So i try 'copy and paste' and 'drag and drop' and all sorts but still won't work. All I get is the white square with a red x in it on the page I put the <IMG SCE="LibPic.jpg">. Tried using jpeg and jpg but still no luck. Thousand times I must've read the instructions.

Any suggestions much appreciatted, taken me six months so far, struth might get tp be a newbie record/urban myth. "Took this guy six months to...et etc. Thanks Mark

72573 2002-08-20 02:55:00 Ahem ... "SRC=" might work a bit better than "SCE=". The trick is, HTML is much like the rest of the Internet ... very light on error messages. Don't assume that it will complain about spelling errors. ;-) Graham L (2)
72574 2002-08-20 02:57:00 Umm ... Dunno if that's a typo you've got in your post, but it should be
<img src="folder/file.jpg">

Make sure the file name matches that on the server exactly. And make sure the image is on the server; you can check by typing the full path in your web-browser eg. homepages.ihug.co.nz

72575 2002-08-20 03:08:00 OhMyGod and crikey dick...I better go see...sorry in anticipation.(NO..have I really been doing that all along?) mark c (247)
72576 2002-08-20 03:10:00 No, yes, it was just a typo, I have been using SRC mark c (247)
72577 2002-08-20 03:19:00 The next trick is: Case Sensitivity . A file called "blah . jpg" will NOT be found if you refer to it as "Blah . jpg" . Nor as "BLAH . jpg", BlAh . Jpeg", or any combination of upper and lower case . JPG is not equal to jpg . Nor jpeg . File names must be referred to exactly as they are .

This confuses people because you can use any case for the part of an URL up to the first "/" . After that, you are talking file or directory names, and these are case sensitive . ;-) That's the way it is . There are good reasons .

72578 2002-08-20 03:21:00 Are you previewing in Arachnophilia or in a browser? antmannz (28)
72579 2002-08-20 03:31:00 Thanks Graham but have been careful about case.

Antmannz, I preview it in Arach. and Opera is the default browser.

You have HTML files and then gif & Jpeg & jpg eh. seperate categories. Seperate folders in Arach. I guess but then does the pic have to be in the HTML folder? I can't seem to get it there, like it's forbidden because it's the wrong file type.

72580 2002-08-20 03:41:00 There is an "official" document giving advice on names for computers . It is by Don Libes (a well-known pioneer of the Internet) . It's FYI0005 (www . alliedtelesyn . co . nz/resources/fyi/fyi0005) written 12 years ago . There are a few more of these FYI (For Your Information) papers which might amuse: FYI0035 "DONT SPEW", FYI0038 " . . . How Not tp $$$$ MAKE ENEMIES FAST $$$$" . . . Spam was a problem on the newsgroups, even then .

Of course I didn't follow Don's advice . . . my boxes are called things like Bravo, Tandy, Digital, Compaq, Compaq2, Cisco1, Cisco2, Vax, . . .
