| 72868 | 2002-08-21 07:04:00 | i have decided to get a new dvd rom drive from Dick SMith Electronics, i am going to buy the ASUS model and it is ide, which has the following properties: -16x read dvd -fast DMA 100 interface -DVD playback software -Double Dynamic Suspension System -Multi format support know the whole package is $198, is this a good deal + i already have two drives, one is a normal cd reader & the other is an LG 8080B cdrw drive, they are both ide and i know which one is slave and which one is primary, i have one more port open for a drive, now if i install the dvd drive will there be conflict between the existing drives and will the new dvd drive become the secondary slave? cheers, v.K------------- :D |

You should be able to get a 16x for around $150-160 (I think I've seen them as low as $140). > i already have two drives, one is a normal cd reader > & the other is an LG 8080B cdrw drive, they are both > ide and i know which one is slave and which one is > primary, i have one more port open for a drive, now > if i install the dvd drive will there be conflict > between the existing drives and will the new dvd > drive become the secondary slave? Remove the old CD reader and plug in the DVD as it does both. Mike. |

A DVD drive is just as reliable as a CD Rom drive, they don't wear out nearly as fast as CD Writers do. Mike. |
