72770 2002-08-20 12:36:00 The very first question I am going to ask you, is what do you want the pc for??? Gaming? graphic manipulation? word processing? Internet??

The reason I ask is that your current system is pretty damn good. I see no point of upgrading at all, unless you need extra performance for a particular reason. There is no point upgrading if you will not notice the difference.

You have a very decent processor, and your mobo seems ok, as long as you don't have any conflicts with other hardware. RAM is astronomic. I would recommend a second HD for backing up.

You would be throwing money away paying for hardware upgrades with a PC as new as yours. Have you noticed any problems, or areas where it is n't performing?

If not, leave it as it is, and enjoy it. Upgrade in a year or so when you will benefit from newer technology, and cheaper prices, and when you will actually notice the difference.

Your computer is fine, unless there is a game you can't play or it is crashing then stick with it.

I'd upgrade the monitor and graphics card if I had money to burn. Broadband Internet would also be good. A nice keyboard and mouse would improve your computing experience for little cash.

72772 2002-08-20 12:43:00 well if you must have the fastest, change that mobo for one that has onboard raid, add another 80gig barracuda hardrive (or get 2 new ones eg wd 8meg cache drives) get a real video card eg GF4 4600, 40x cdwriters are easy enought to get, i like the pionerr slotload dvd drive myself, 19" monitor (if $$ no object a 21") upgrade processor and get a decent cpu cooler + a kick ass case that you can mod to look way cool :) tweak'e (174)
72773 2002-08-20 13:31:00 Thank you all for your advice, reading magazines, web sites, advertisements, ect.,make me wont to make my P.C. better ,being new I'm not sure what to do,and what not to do. I just wont to play games mostly, and so make it so good for that really, plus having the ability to do anything else later on when I have learnt more about PC's. I cant even type fast!!!!! maze (1582)
72774 2002-08-20 14:23:00 This is so cool doing this I get independent advice from knowledgeable people who know heaps. Thanks to all. What case do you recommend, and motherboard with Raid, what coolers do you recommend, monitor, keyboard. I have to go to bed soon else I wont be able to concentrate at work. PC's are what I'm thinking about most of the time now. Is this normal am I an addict???If so at least I'm not the only one.!!!What a rush!!! maze (1582)
72775 2002-08-20 21:17:00 maze, welcome. I am glad you like Press F1, and hopeyou come back often. Most of us are self confessed addicts here. (What do you mean I'm an addict - bah!) :D

I understand you wanting to make you PC blitz everything else, but my suggestion is that you wait a few weeks or months (it won't hurt) before you get anything major done. Why? well, unless you have money to burn, you won't get any benefit out of the extra components.

For gaming, my suggestions if you really, really, really want to throw some money away are - the possible mobo and HD upgrades tweak'e suggested. (He can advise on brands and models far better than I can).

Also, for gaming, your graphics card will do, but it is most definitely not the ultimate gaming card. Trade it in on a GeForce 4 Ti 4600. Now that's a video card - 128mb RAM, and 1.23 Trillion operations per second!! Compared with 64mb for your MX card.

Finally for internet gaming, you must get an adsl modem, and a jetstream connection. Broadband internet baby!

Finally, to impress your friends get a cool case and lighting kit from somewhere like here (http://www.coolcases.co.nz).

Have fun!

P.S. Using paragraphs in your posts will make them easier for people to read - just a tip.

72777 2002-08-21 07:18:00 Maze.. your in CHCH, as am i

.. consider cable internet... it's wonderful, and a damn site less taxing on the system than running a dial up modem. If i didn't have cable internet here in the cave, i'd possibly be tempted to go out sometimes socailly!
