73580 2002-08-24 14:34:00 If you have a conexant/rockwell modem you can find out the final connection speed of your modem (rather than just the initial speed) and other useful stuff.

After you close your connection, start HyperTerminal (or similar), hit cancel at the connection dialog, and type (you will have to type blind for the first line):

ATZ
AT#UG

It will print out a whole lot information about your last call. The interesting ones are:

<RX SIG POWER DB=13, TX SIG POWER DB=15, S/N RATIO DB=40>
<TX FIRST DATA RATE=28800, RX FIRST DATA RATE=49333>
<TX FINAL RATE=31200, RX FINAL RATE=26400>

First data rate is the inital connection speed that is reported when you connect. The final data rate is the speed your connection was at before you disconnected.

S/N (signal to noise) ratio is a measure of your line quality, there is more info about it:

73582 2002-08-25 12:02:00 what about for hardware based modems -=JM=- (16)
73583 2002-08-25 12:03:00 even better, use a network prgram (some download apps will also do this) to show exactly how fast you are downloading. test on a local known server and download a compressed file, eg movie,mp3. check your actual download speed. tweak'e (174)
