| 73479 | 2002-08-24 00:36:00 | Hi What is a good download manager for downloading large files (200MB)off the internet and being able to resume after a connection loss and doesn't have any popup ads or spyware or other bad things (I have 56k dialup connection) Is "internetdownloadmanager" any good? http://www.internetdownloadmanager.com download.com.com TIA Graeme |

| 73480 | 2002-08-24 00:56:00 | its not one i've tried. i prefer flashget (http://www.amazesoft.com/) myself. o i love how all these prog makers claim 500% increase in speed......bah. at the end of the day its the phone line which will limit your speed. main features to look for are- filesplitting, ie download different parts off different servers. use mirrors mirror searching ie find more sources to download from. all the good dowload apps are pay to use or adware supported. spyware? it depends on which app and which version you use. |

After downloading few files(10-20) It starts all the annoying pop ups asking you to purchase it. of course you can just ignore it by waiting for few seconds or just uninstall it and reinstall it again. but its cool to set your downloading times and automatic shutdown/hangup after finishing files. And yeah the server you'r downloading from has to support resuming in order for you to pause and resume again. |

FlashGet is available here http://www.amazesoft.com/ GetRight is available here http://www.getright.com/ Go!Zilla is available here gozilla.com |

| 73488 | 2002-08-26 02:53:00 | Hi Graeme, I've not used the program you ask about, but I would recommend DAP (Download Accelerator Plus) from www.speedbit.com as a good one - I just download 300mb a couple of days ago, it resumes (thank goodness, as I lost connection a couple of times) and downloads from multiple sources to get the fastest download time. It is adware, but that's what makes it free - there's no actual spyware in it though. Mike. |
