73360 2002-08-23 13:20:00 I have been using CSS for everything except page layout since my first day of HTML learning (I was lucky to stumble accross it whilst looking for HTML tutorials, and it appealled to my mathematical mind, and background using styles in word).

I cannot seem to get this page layout sussed though, and I am getting ready to throw the damn thing out the window. X-(

I uderstand the principles, and I get all the details - it is very easy to grasp, but can I get it to work?? Hell no!

Has someone used CSS to emulate a frame layout, and if yes, can I view your page and style sheet to see if I have just made a silly mistake??

Cheers - in the name of my sanity.

73362 2002-08-23 14:02:00 I think my problem is tha IE doesn't recognise fixed positioning of CSS boxes - this means that until it and others do, I am stuck with frames - any bright ideas anyone??

I can get it to work using absolute positions, but only by specifying the pixel sizes dor the boxes (rather than percentages). This makes coding for dofferent screen resolutions very difficult. There is alot of info on how to replace frames with CSS, but little info on browser support. This is strange as (unlesss I am mistaken) only Mozilla supports it so far.

Hmmm.

sal - have a look on Google for info on replacing frames with css style sheets

I can't think of a good url to give you, but there is plenty of info out there.

Cheers

73363 2002-08-24 00:21:00 I've got an example on the other computer (currently turned off and I'm out the door in a few minutes) of a javascript.

It checks the browser of the visitor and if the visitor is using IE - it uses one CSS, if Netscape it uses a 2nd one etc. If javascript is turned off it uses a default one. I seem to remember that you can get quite a bit of info of a viewer's setup with javascript so can set up a number of options.

Have a hunt for it, if stuck I'll look this evening.
