73436 2002-08-23 10:48:00 Gigabyte Radeon 9700 Pro overclocked to 400MHz at Anandtech
Anandtech (http://www . anandtech . com) have overclocked a Gigabyte Radeon 9700 Pro to 400Mhz, a 23% increase over the standard 325Mhz . When they reached this speed they were surprised that it could be taken to such levels and the results show the benefits . Here's a clip from the article:

One of the reasons that the overclock was so impressive is because of the sheer size of the R300 GPU itself . Remember that we're talking about a 110M transistor GPU built on a 0 . 15-micron process; we were shocked when ATI announced that they would be able to hit 325MHz on retail boards, but when we managed to reach 400MHz on the GV-R9700Pro we were amazed to the point of extreme skepticism .

CD Copy Stopper . . . the new protection
Snagged this from The Technology Review ( . technologyreview . com/articles/prototype10902 . asp?p=7" target="_blank">www . technologyreview . com) . The report details a new prototype CD copy protection which could be the best yet . Read below for the whole story:
Software pirates beware: CD-ROMs might soon be armed with invisible security systems that keep their contents-games and business applications-under lock and key . The OpSecure CD was developed by Rosh-Ha-ayin, Israel-based Doc-Witness . A “smart card” embedded in the CD unlocks the disc’s encrypted content . You can copy the CD, but without the card the software won’t run . Try to install the software on more computers than the publisher allows and the smart card will shut you down . The technology works by turning an ordinary CD drive into a smart-card reader . A photodetector at the edge of the CD turns the drive’s laser light into electrical pulses, which travel to the embedded smart card and request the key . If the card deems the request legitimate, it returns the key as an electronic signal that an onboard light-emitting diode converts into light and beams back to the drive . Doc-Witness is negotiating with several business software publishers and aims to begin manufacturing the secure CDs in January 2003 . The company is also working on a similar security system for DVD's
