| 73386 | 2002-08-23 08:46:00 | I am using OE vs 6 with Windows SE and find that incoming mail with a doc file attachment resulted in the error msg "OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail xxxxxxx.doc. By going to XTRA MAIL , the attachment was there and wight clicking it, copied to disk , and it was a perfectly ordinary document sent to me by a friend. I had scanned the files with Nortons antivirus. I tried sending a message to myself with a simple 'doc' file as an attachment , and the same happened. I tried disabling both Nortons auto protect and Nortons personal firewall , resent a message to myself , and the same happens. I don't know which setting to alter in my OE setup....I have tried but cannot find an answer to this . Can anyone please help ? Bernard Welford |

Adding File Attachment Security One of the big problems with previous versions of Outlook Express was that there wasn't much in the way of restricting e-mail attachments. Since most viruses are being spread through these attachments, the capability is now available to select which ones you want to accept. 1. Go to Tools / Options / Security 2. Check Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus |

Now you see why I will not use OE, having used Eudora for 2 years now it is still efficient, simple and free from hiccups. Also its seldom targetted for virus attack, as its non-microsoft. |

| 73391 | 2002-09-25 04:15:00 | Hi Godfather, Came in from the lambing beat, opened emails, looking for one esp. that I knew had an attachment and finding I could not open it, did my stunned mullet look when I could not even open the ones I had sent!. Thought there must be a virus, even though I have been very faithful in updates. Had lunch, yes I know its 3 o'clockish, while Mafee whirred a clicked, = no virus. "I have not got time to waste clicking to check things when there are 10 lambs to feed" I said, those intellectuals on F1 will give me hand and sure enough having using search there was my answer. Thanks Heather |
