73989 2002-08-26 08:05:00 After reading Geoff Palmer's story in IMag, I am keen to get rid of Windows Media Player. I don't want microsoft interfering with my computer. But how do I remove it? - stephen stpn (1635)
73990 2002-08-26 08:34:00 Can't see why not. Go to control panel - add/remove progs - windows media player should be listed - remove it. You may have to associate media files to what ever other prog you have installed. Personally, media player does not cause any problems, so I would leave it in.

73991 2002-08-26 08:42:00 No Peter H - I tried Add/Remove programs and Windows Media Player isn't listed. - Stephen stpn (1635)
73992 2002-08-26 09:11:00 Its just hidden, you have to edit the sysoc.inf file to remove the "hide" parameter before you can see it. godfather (25)
73993 2002-08-26 09:22:00 Sorry to be stupid Godfather, but where do I find the sysoc.inf file, Please? - Stephen stpn (1635)
73994 2002-08-26 09:37:00 Goto FAQ at the top right of this page, look for FAQ #46. Its for removing Messenger, but the principle could be the same. It deals with sysoc.inf

BUT: be warned, there isnt a lot documented that I know of (if you are using XP) and it could be a bit like IE, in that it cant be easily extracted without compromising the integrity of the OS itself.

If you are comfortable reloading the entire system, feel free....

Download the new WinAmp 3. You can play DVDs etc on it. Seems very nice so far
