73958 2002-08-26 05:29:00 Hi guys and gals and bruce

Any ideas how to stop Outlook XP from sending and receiving email on program startup? If I'm not connected it gives an error, and if I am connected it just goes and gets my email, which I don't want it to do every time :)... can it be turned off?

Also, when it does receive on startup, none of the email Rules work. They only work on subsequent sending/receiving (whether manual or scheduled).

Mike.

73959 2002-08-26 05:53:00 I'm not too sure as I have OE 6 but check under tools, options, and under Send/Receive un tick the box that says Send/Receive messages on start up or under If My Computer Is not Connected at this time select Do Not Connect.

Hope this helps.

73960 2002-08-26 05:55:00 Hi Mike - I am wondering if there is the option to turn it off like in Outlook Express - Tool - Options - General and then there is a place to tick- Send and Receive Messages at Startup. Among the other options. I haven't got office xp on yet, was just given it!!! Hope that may be of some help! J ZEP (336)
73961 2002-08-26 07:30:00 Nah there's no option there - although it could be hidden deep inside somewhere that I haven't found...

Let me clarify though - my problem isn't with it connecting to download emails, I've got that turned off already, so it doesn't do it... it's just automatically downloading (when I'm already online) as soon as I open the program, which I don't want it to do.

Click on Email Options in the E-Mail section.

and then what? I've looked in all these places and cannot find somewhere that lets me turn off automatically checking email on startup. I know you can do it on OE, and I'm fairly sure I could turn it off when I had Outlook 2000, but can't find exactly where in Outlook XP.

73964 2002-08-27 04:03:00 Outlook 2000 is under Tools/Services
Select your mail service/properties and ensure it doesn't think you're connected to a LAN

73965 2002-08-27 04:57:00 Tools>Options>Mail Setup Tab, the box should be right at the bottom. In the Dial Up Section Jim B (153)
73966 2002-08-27 05:04:00 well with 98 OE6 it's
tools > options > general > (tickbox) Send and receive messages at start up (somewhere round the middle of the big grey box).....

Is it not there running under XP?

73967 2002-08-27 05:11:00 Chris, Outlook XP is a completely different version of Outlook, all the settings are different to other versions of Outlook and is nothing like Outlook Express Jim B (153)
