73653 2002-08-25 02:36:00 I have an early USR Sportster 56 k modem that gets confused between the American busy signal and our normal signal consequently it rings twice then hangs up reporting a busy line. There is a command to add to the mdem int string to stop this happening, can anybody tell me what it is?
Thanks,
Pat

Was there not a manual with the modem giving the command summary, and the S register settings?

73655 2002-08-25 04:03:00 Hi Terry,
yep have all the commands but I cant see anything that will cause the modem to ignore a busy signal which is what I need. Will try your suggestion of ATB0 though.

73656 2002-08-25 04:30:00 Nope, that didnt work. I seem to recall it was a S register setting but I cant find it anywhere. Any other suggestions? peejay (1396)
73657 2002-08-25 04:42:00 Try atx1

There are 22,000 hits for modem ignore busy on Google....one of them is bound to be right.

73658 2002-08-25 05:14:00 Ok, to change an S register setting, the command is ATSr=n, where r is the register and n is a decimal value.

A problem is that I think the S register settings can be different for different model modems even of the same make.

Looking in an old internal ISA 56k sportster manual (but includes external modems as well), suggests that changing S27 changes the modulation for different types of call, overseas and domestic (ie Canada and US), etc.

Here are the different values listed to enable and or disable different modes.

But again this is a bit of a wild guess.

n=0=default, then 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128.

Cheers
