73646 2002-08-24 23:53:00 Try slowing the modem to a maximum speed of 33.6K. Connecting at
33.6K is much more stable than at 56K protocol. Follow the instructions
below, and enter the string of +ms=v34.if is an HSP, HCF, MultiTech, LT Winmodem, Conexant or other software
based modem.

Here's how:
For Win 95 98 ME
Double-click on My Computer, then double-click on Dial-Up Networking.
Right-click on the ISP connection icon and choose Properties.
Click the Configure button.
Change maximum speed to 38.400
Click the Connection tab.
Click the Advanced button.

In "Extra settings," enter the string. +MS=V34
Click OK to save changes.
Shut down the computer (Start - Shut Down - Shut Down), and turn it back
on to activate the changes.

73648 2002-08-25 02:15:00 What string you use depends on your modem model.

Double-click on My Computer, then double-click on Dial-Up Networking.
Right-click on the ISP connection icon and choose Properties.

At the bottom where it says Connect Using let me know what modem is showing there
Click the Configure button.
Click the Connection tab.
Click the Advanced button.
Delete all settings and restart the computer.

I will give you a string suitable for your modem type.

73650 2002-08-25 04:37:00 Look on it to find the maker and model, and go to the makers website, see if there are later drivers for it.

Internal "soft" modems either work or they dont quite. Sounds like yours is the latter.

73652 2002-08-31 18:15:00 Hi,
Have a Internal Lucent modem that would not work at all (was recognized by Windows..but no communication), after sitting dormant for 2 years in my PC (after purchasing) box before joining the Internet. So took it out, wiped the pins with a cotton bud, reinserted, and Windows communicated straight away...So perhaps try a clean...
