74102 2002-08-26 22:23:00 I have a Compaq Armada 110 with a DVD player. I would like to watch DVD movies on my TV but there is no PAL out plug. Is it possible to connet this computer to the TV and where would I get any connectors from? Arbie (1643)
74103 2002-08-26 22:30:00 Assuming your laptop only has a svga monitor output socket, the only way is reasonably expensive, and requires a svga - tv out convertor.

These used to be available but have not seen them lately, but were a couple of hundred dollars or more.

There is no compatable signals available in normal monitor out sockets.

74104 2002-08-27 00:45:00 its cheaper to buy a standalone dvd player these days on a desktop you can add a hollywood plus card that gives you a excellent picture and sound kiwibeat (304)
74105 2002-08-27 01:02:00 Quite a few graphics cards have TV out now. There are also TV tuner cards available. I think I've seen standalone TV out cards as well. Here are some e.g.s.

The connection is normally via composite (yellow RCA plug) or S-Video (better).
I think they are probably a better bet than trying to rewire/adapt a VGA out plug.

74106 2002-08-27 01:05:00 Excuse my ignorance but is the armada a laptop? If so please ignore my previous. Cheers Taneat (1644)
74107 2002-08-27 04:51:00 Its a laptop, so add-in cards are not an option.

The suggestion to but a stand-alone DVD is probably as cheap as an adaptor and will be far better in output in most cases. TV out is often quite low resolution (800x600)

74108 2002-08-27 07:01:00 2 Specials on at the moment. Dick Smiths have a VGA-TV adapter for about $190. K-Mart have a DVD player for $220. Take your pick. andy (473)
