| 74263 | 2002-10-02 04:12:00 | VoIP is different again, its using the internet to carry the digitised voice telephony. This still does not allow a POTS (Plain Old Telephone System) to access the line while data is on it. It means you will have to have access to two separate telephony networks, or a gateway from one to the other at the Teleco end. Unfortunately it will also be expensive, and will limit the incoming VoIP call to your computer, not to your telephone circuits in the house. As soon as it gets affordable, you can bet that the cost of a second line will drop, or ADSL will suddenly be affordable. Its for those events that the technology is encouraged. V92 will, but only by "parking" all data calls to allow the voice to temporarily take over the line, and assuming Teleco's and ISPs change their systems to it. |
