| 74274 | 2002-08-28 10:26:00 | Hello Mark, There is two things you definitely need to do to fix your 600 series printer with a possibility of a third if the clutch as become disengaged. Firstly/ lubricate a paper towel or lint free cloth with CRC or WD40 or sewing machine oil, wipe the metal rod that the print cartridge carriage slides up and down on ( you normally find that a fair amount of fairly heavy grease will come off on the cloth, it is this that normally starts the problems you are having) once you have done that power the printer up as per normal and let it run through it's normal routine for setting it's self up ( you are only doing this so as the cartridge carriage goes back and forth a couple of times to lubricate itself, so don't try and print anything) Secondly/ Disconnect the printer cable and the power cable from the printer, leave for about twenty seconds then reconnect the power cable do not reconnect the printer cable, now switch on the printer, if you have a steady green light, push in and hold the resume button (the second button down) you need to hold it in for around 5 seconds or until you hear the printer kick into action. Your printer should now print a self diagnostic page, if this page prints out OK and you do not get any more jarring, switch off reconnect your printer cable and try printing a test page from your PC, this should be OK unless you have a driver or software conflict on your machine. Thirdly/ if you still have jarring noises coming from the printer, your clutch has almost certainly become disengaged, to fix it you need to look for a white piece of plastic on the far left of the printer carriage track, this piece of plastic should be about 75% to the left of the cog you see there with the other 25% to the right, if it is 100% to the left of the cog, that is the cause of the problem.
