| 74687 | 2002-08-29 00:25:00 | How do I make my computer a fixed IP connection? Have been told need to do this if I want to have a web link to a front of house camera I have at home ie it feeds into the TV aerial system and then into my PC via a video card. Excuse ignorance on this as whole new field! Many thanks |

You need some image capture software to capture a frame every x minutes, then you PC should FTP the image to your web site, where you can view anytime. Website space is free. FTP software is free. Not sure about the image capture and automation, a bit more complex. If you have a TV card in your PC it may already have the capability? |

| 74691 | 2002-08-29 03:05:00 | I run a LiteView TV card, but its not fitted at present so I cant comment, but I thought the software in that allowed image capture, but not automated. As a point of interest I also have a camera fitted, plumbed into the TV system and viewable on any TV in the house. I would suggest you search on Google for a suitable software package, they will exist but are most likely not free. Some web-cams have this software packaged, but that may not help you as you need to interface to another type of input device, or a file. Your biggest hurdle will be getting an automated image capture to a file every x minutes. Dont think streaming live video will be an option though, as you would have a bandwidth problem. The suggestion of a fixed IP address was probably made assuming you would access your own PC via the web, but that would cost equivalent to a cable connection, not cheap. |

| 74692 | 2002-08-29 03:13:00 | Dial up with fixed IP plus dedicated phone line for 24/7 connection cost = more than cost of cable, which is why i suggested it. (of course you have to live in a priviledged area) Take into account what a bandwidth hog it would be, the novelty of watching all your dial-up bandwidth get used to pump often broken video images of your garage door out of the building would wear out VERY quickly. |
