| 74463 | 2002-09-05 14:59:00 | Ziggyman, If you haven't already you could try reducing your monitor resolution, via each games options/preferences menu from 32 bit to 16 bit colour . Whilst that might sound detrimental, the difference is often imperceptible to most eyes . It often produces, on the other hand, a remarkable improvement in framerates and stability . Whilst on this issue perhaps you might want to consider, if you haven't already, reducing some of the defaults for each game from one that provides the best resolution/highest details ectera to one which provides the most stability . Don't attempt to FLASH your BIOS unless you absolutely know what your doing . As others indicate the potential for damage can be surprising if it occurs . Your next step, if problems persist (no this aint a suggestion for taking a panadol) would be to select | right click the My Computer icon on your desktop . Select < properties >, select the < performance > tab, select the < graphics button > and move the < Hardware acceleration > slider one notch to the left . Finally, it might be appropriate to alter, via the BIOS, both the AGP aperture settings from the usual default of 64 meg to 128 meg and disable Video Ram Shadowing if it is already enabled . I would suggest you try each suggestion separately before considering appropriating the three in unison . That way you'll be able to identify the probable cause of the problem if improvements following implementation one or combinations of suggestions over another . Good luck . . . . . . . |

| 74464 | 2002-09-05 19:47:00 | Thank you very much for your suggestions, I have tried compatibility modes, they do notthing, I have tried turning down the resolution and color thingy (32bit-16bit) to its very bottom of the games, and even taken that 3d acceleration notch top its bottom, but everything keeps happening the same as it does. Thanks for all your suggestions, I shull try changeing those bios settings after school and report back to you all. Again I thank you for your help, and hoipe you dont get sick of me before the problem is fixed. | Ziggyman (1176) | ||

| 74472 | 2002-09-15 08:02:00 | Ok, well after looking into updating direct x, I found out that ther xp service pack must be installed to update Direct X on windows xp. So, I downloaded this 30 meg service pack from microsoft.com. After it finally finished downloading it installed itself, It asked to restart the computer, so I let it. It started up again and I tested all my loaded Games, YEAH!!!, I celabrated in joyfull content at the fact that my games did not stall, or stuggle to open to full screen. Also my 3D screen savers now worked in preview mode (as they did not before). I installed GTA1 and 3 to see if they would work, 3 worked great, before all of the writing was messed up and I couldnt read anything, and then I installed GTA1, once it had finished it said It needed direct x 3, but it would not install it as I would need to get it from microsoft.com, fine, then it asked to restart my computer so I let it. And to my horrer one of the fixed problems came back, but only one, (the one where my games won't open proparly unless I franticly click the left mouse button), my games didn't appear to stall, and GTA3's text was still ok, and my screen savers still work proparly, but my older games like Age of empires 1 + 2, Diablo, and Motor Cross Madness dont open proparly. I tried a system restore, that did notthing, and I removerd the service pack and downloaded it again, still no change. Is there anything you guys can do to help me?? | Ziggyman (1176) | ||
