74453 2002-08-31 05:32:00 It happens after about 5-15 minutes after playing any of the games, it seems to happen more quickly at a higher graphic exceleration. Ziggyman (1176)
74454 2002-09-02 06:35:00 Bill, please tell me what this bios resseting is Ziggyman (1176)
74455 2002-09-02 06:41:00 BIOS flashing is where you go to the motherboard manufacturers site and download the updated BIOS.

It is NOT TO BE DONE LIGHTLY as if you get it wrong, its usually the end of your motherboard.

Your problem does sound like a temperature related problem. What does the MBM program (that you were pointed to above) report?

When doing complex graphics, the CPU and Video card processor work very hard and temperature rises.

74456 2002-09-04 19:47:00 Ok guys, well once I have found out the tempratures, where do we go from there? Ziggyman (1176)
74457 2002-09-04 21:18:00 Tell the experts on here what your temperatures are for a start. :-) Susan B (19)
74458 2002-09-04 22:17:00 Dunno if this could be your problem, but I had the same thing happen to me when I installed my GeForce4 Ti440, 3D games locking up and such. After a week of trying out different ways to hopefully fix the problem, I noticed that I had installed the card just above another card, which blocked off pretty much all the air getting to the fan (which is on the bottom of the card). Make sure that your GF2's fan isn't being blocked by another card. Hervard (405)
74459 2002-09-04 22:23:00 I use a very simple test when I think a problem could be heat related.

Take the side off your PC case. get a home fan and place it 2 feet from the open side pointing into the guts then turn it on full. Play offending games. If it does not crash its likely that either your CPU or your videocard are overheating. Check fans and heatsinks (I have seen a number of systems where one side of the CPU heatsink detaches itself from the clip) if this is the case.

You mention that there is a sound problem related to this so for experimental purposes try this test after you try the above. Go into your device manager and "disable in this profile" the soundcard related entries. Try running games. Do they still crash with no sound turned on?

Let us know what happens and we can go from there.

74460 2002-09-05 09:50:00 Ok guys and gurls, It still stalls with the sound disabled. I do not as of just yet want to remove the casing as the computer company say that this will void the warrenty. So, where abouts on that site do I go to to check the tempratures? I have messaged the pc company and they have said that they do not think it is a temp problem, but a problem with direct x, but I think the first part may be a temp problem, but the part about the full screen thing im not to sure of, the games that stall have no problem getting into (ie the newer games) but the earlyer games are bugging me. 74462 2002-09-05 12:00:00 There is one strange bug I have noticed with XP and other games (I read a lot of tech forums) both old and new and that is XP's ability to run some programs in "compatability mode". In some cases with games crashing the fix has been to either enable or disable "compatability mode" for the game involved. Some people have found after installing a game to XP that XP has somehow turned on "compatability mode" during the install (Ghost recon is one) and turning it off solves things. Some games however prefer to be run under "compatabilty mode" and thus you should turn it on for the game.

I do not have XP but understand that this compatability mode is a function available for setting in the right click menu of the softwares start shortcut but I may be wrong so if somebody with XP could explain how this works that would be great.

Compatability mode may help with the older games anyway.

It may be of course this does nothing whatsoever.
