74729 2002-08-29 02:04:00 In case anyone reads this. Running Windows 98SE

Usually have no trouble running scandisk and defrag. But this time was different and finished up using Safe Mode just in case. Problem seemed that at 39% the defrag seemed to be stuck and even the "clickety-clack" noise seemed different.

Read down all the postings on the FAQ about scandisk/defrag and came across this: .

Sometimes while defragging it may appear that defragger is "stuck in one place"for longer than usual and nothing is happening except your HDD is still chirping away?

The answer to this is to be patient as it might be a large file being moved to where it can be optimised for faster recovery.

I had this happen to me recently whereby the weekly defrag that usually took 30mins,took 2 hours.

So if your Hard-drive is still clicking/blinking or is at least working away, just be "PATIENT"

Cheers,Kiwitas,

Did as Kiwitas suggested and just waited and waited and then suddenly it was all away and tearing through the defragmenting until it got to the end and finished. Took a good two hours which is unusual.

Anyway just wanted to say thanks to everyone who puts all the FAQ's together. They do come in useful and I for one certainly appreciate the time and effort that goes into getting them ready for us lesser mortals to read, understand and learn from.

Regards,

74734 2002-08-29 10:17:00 HAHAHA! we had a high of 12 today! Last month we had a day when we had a high of 2!

Early in the week it was sunny in the morning, hailed late morning, snowed at lunch time, hailed some more, and then was sunny in the avo.

Anyway - thankyou for the positive feedback Iris - I think everyone desevres a pat on the back clever, and not so... alike as everyone contributes to make PressF1 what it is. It wouldn't be here without the newbies!
