74386 2002-08-28 04:28:00 Hi. ?:| ?:|

I have tried out RegClean and it seems to have modified/removed some keys from Local Machine/Software/Classes/CLSID and lots of numbers. Some have TypeLib, some have Version and the others Control.

They are sitting waiting to be reinstalled if necessary.

I printed out what had been removed and my query is where it says

Merge, Print, Edit. What does the "merge" mean.

Is it something to do with if you use RegClean again and it finds something else to fix you can merge that lot with an earlier lot instead of having several "setups" (can't think of the word I mean) to reinstall if necessary. Somehow I don't think it is but -

as usual, thanks for any replies,

Iris

74387 2002-08-28 05:46:00 Presume you are using MS reg clean. Suggest that you use regleaner instead. http://www.jv16.org

74388 2002-08-28 06:41:00 Merge means you enter those keys removed back into the registry.
I have never had to do it but at least it is there if you have to..
If you don't notice any problems after a week or two you can delete them.

74389 2002-08-28 07:53:00 Thanks both of your for replies. Was referring to MSRegClean. Is the other one better?

Too many choices with all these items to keep computers clean and tidy. Usually take heed of any preferences that are posted on this page. At least they are tried and trusted by others.

74390 2002-08-28 08:03:00 Hello Iris,

I use EasyCleaner & RegCleaner to remove invalid registry entries .
Both programmes make a backup of any files or keys that are deleted .

The backups are stored on your harddrive . You don't need to worry about them unless your computer starts playing up . (Which has never happened for me . )

If you have problems you can restore(merge) the backed up entries .
It seems scary at first, but the programs are reliable and safe .

Bye for now, Antonia

74391 2002-08-28 08:25:00 Again have used both. Regcleaner seems to be the preferred option. Never had any problems with it & does a good job.

74392 2002-08-28 21:10:00 Hi Iris. Was going to ask about this topic myself,so downloaded Regcleaner and tried it.Have been using MS Regclean (very confusing for newbies, the names being so similar) In Regcleaner you have to choose what to delete, whereas Regclean does it all by itself, and you cross your fingers etc!But haven't had any trouble with regclean. 74393 2002-08-29 05:10:00 Thanks everyone once again for all help and advice .

As you say it can all be scary (especially when you get that "do you really want to delete . . . . . . . this could be dangerous" message .

Anyway have downloaded one of the programmes so here's hoping!!!

So many to choose from!!!

and I thought it was hard enough picking out some tiles to put in the kitchen,

Cheers
