2002-08-30 01:48:00 | Hi Nick. I started to say... Let's get physical. Flip the mouse onto his back (while his tail is still jammed into the computer), unscrew his navel, and let his... ah... guts drop out. Stick a finger into the resultant cavity and rotate each of the two rollers. See any movement of the pointer on screen? ... but then "...He tried another mouse..." finally oozed its way into brain cell #3 (the good one.) My Crystal Ball tells me the connection isn't Infrared or Wireless or USB. That leaves Serial or PS/2 (flat-ish 9pin or small, round and possibly green.) Does it connect to the Serial Port or the PS/2 Port? Can you borrow the type that this one isn't, connect it and report what happens? (You my need your Windows disk if you've never used the other type before.) My thinking so far: Two different mice... mouses... Ah, more than one mouse giving the same problem probably rules out the mouse. That leaves the computer ports, and the software drivers. I suspect (Damn, my mouse just ate my Crystal Ball) Cheers, Alan Carpenter

2002-08-30 10:58:00 | Hi Susan. As long as I'm learning I'll certainly be staying. The thing is, the more I learn, the more I learn there's more to learn. I could be here a while. :) Cheers, Alan

2002-08-30 11:08:00 | Alan Carpenter . All joking aside, that has to be one of the most profound things I have ever read . Serious Poppa John "The thing is, the more I learn, the more I learn there's more to learn" .

2002-08-30 11:53:00 | Poppa John, That's funny, I used to be serious too! This is getting seriously funny. Hey Nick! We haven't forgotten your friend's mouse. If all else fails, we'll bring around a working mouse and try mouse to mouse resuscitation.:) Cheers, Alan

2002-08-30 23:36:00 | Alan< *laughs* I should have said that the mouse is a 2 button, serial mouse on Com 1. Anyway my mate seems to have now lost his mouse driver so he is going to reinstall Win95 today. It must be a driver problem, surely? Nick

2002-08-31 00:39:00 | I've seen this (ages ago) where the registry has different thresholds for vertical and horizontal mouse movement with 0 = none. Open regedit and check (from memory) HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Mouse or HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Input/Mouse Check for values with names with "thresh" or "threshold" in them - there should be 2. Set them to the same numbers - I can't remember whether it's safe to delete them or not so I wouldn't recommend deleting them (unless you feel lucky) :)
