74858 2002-08-29 11:01:00 The quickest way, is to turn off Javascript support in your browser's settings. antmannz (28)
74859 2002-08-29 11:13:00 The best way is to put any popup site url's in your "Hosts" file (found in your Windows or Windows/System Dir). You can put in any Advert sites or any other site you don't want appearing mikebartnz (21)
74860 2002-08-29 11:25:00 Hi mejb,

Pop-Up Stopper I find excellent,as you can let pop-ups in on selected pages.

The Pro version Pop-Up stopper Companion,is even better as it has facility to delete cookies, history, temp files,rubbish-bin&doc file

Doesn't dust your keyboard though?!!

Also has Hotlinks, simular to Favourites but quicker.(drop-down in centre of screen)

Available here (http://www.panicware.com)

74862 2002-08-29 12:00:00 IMHO, Mozilla, because it can be set to block only unwanted popups so sites that use onclick popups still work (eg ANZ).

Although its not a choice if your like IE :-).

74864 2002-08-29 22:57:00 Just remember that turning off Java can affect your surfing experiences on some sites (ie. Banks). Some sites won't allow you in unless you have Java switched on.

Also, beware of just deleting your cookies willy-nilly. Cookies sometimes carry important information, such as your login and password (if you've asked IE to store these for automatic login), and you'll have to remember your settings.

It can also mean that you affect how responsible sites serve their ads, so that YOU end up seeing MORE ads than you're supposed to. Cookies are used as a way to target ads a bit more (if the advertiser asks for it, that is), not to recognise individual site visitors.

And finally, ad-blocking software can interfere with certain applications, and can be very hard to remove from your 'puter.

Blocking pop-ups can definitely speed up your surfing, but there are definite down sides to doing so, and you should research this more before downloading anything.

Kind Regards
