74811 2002-08-29 05:14:00 Hi All

Have just got a new PC running XP Pro.
When I right click Start and open Explorer I can see my local drives, floppy, C: D: etc.
On the Quick Launch toolbar, I have a shortcut to Explorer which targets c:\Windows\Explore.exe.
When I use this shortcut, I have to expand the My Computer folder/icon before I can see my local drives floppy, C: D: etc. Why is this. Is there something that I have to change so the local drives are viewable as soon as I open Explorer from Quick Launch.

Here's hoping

Cheers

74812 2002-08-29 05:46:00 [pre]EXPLORER.EXE [/n][/e][,/root,<object>][[,/select],]
Switches
/n: Opens a new window in single-paned (My Computer) view for each item
selected, even if the new window duplicates a window that is
already open.

/e: Uses Windows Explorer view. Windows Explorer view is most similar
to File Manager in Windows version 3.x. Note that the default view
is Open view.

/root,<object>: Specifies the root level of the specified view. The
default is to use the normal namespace root (the
desktop). Whatever is specified is the root for the
display.

/select,: Specifies the folder to receive the initial
focus. If "/select" is used, the parent folder
is opened and the specified object is selected.
Examples
To open a Windows Explorer view to explore only objects on \\<server name>, use the following syntax:
explorer /e,/root,\\<server name>
To view the C:\WINDOWS folder and select CALC.EXE, use the following syntax:
explorer /select,c:\windows\calc.exe [pre]

74813 2002-08-29 06:14:00 I have Win98 so I'm not entirely sure if this will work, but looking at godfather's post I think it will:

Right click on your Explorer shortcut, choose Properties.

In the Target line copy and paste the following:

C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE /n,/e,C:\YourFolder

Replace YourFolder with whatever folder you want opening each time, or just leave it out for the C: drive to display. You can change the C: to another partition if you wish, just do what suits you using godfather's options. I have mine opening to Documents (a renamed My Documents folder).

If you want to, you can assign a shortcut key to use the keyboard instead of the mouse to open Explorer.

74814 2002-08-30 02:14:00 Hi Susan B and Godfather

Thanks guys. That did the trick and is now noted in my ""book of hints for future reference.
I've also used the Windows Classic options available to run XP. Its too flowery as standard.
"
Thanks Again
