| 74804 | 2002-08-29 05:13:00 | Thanks everyone for your help.It has been great. Another question when I am playing checkers on Pogo.com I am often disconnected from the server and consequently lose the game. This seems to happen after 5.pm-could it be an overload of users at Xtra. It is not so bad during the day Also someone mentioned computers from the PCCompany. Is there a problem??? |

| 74805 | 2002-08-29 05:26:00 | PC Company sell more computers than any other local builder (about 20% of the total sales). There will be more problems with computers they build. There are more of them to have problems. ;-) | Graham L (2) | ||
| 74806 | 2002-08-29 05:33:00 | Xtra (and all internet services on dial up) seem to experience a loss of performance after 3 pm (children home from school) and another drop after 5 as you have noted, when everyone else gets home. I am not sure of the policy of disconnection, but if your connection is idle (perhaps while you are thinking of a move?) for a few minutes it could happen, and there isnt much you can do. Its unlikely to be your settings as its OK other times. |

Go to Tools>Options>Connections>click on your ISP>Settings>Advanced and either remove the tick (if there is one) from Disconnect if idle for X minutes OR increase the number of minutes to something like 15 or whatever suits you. 2. The other thing you can do is have your email (Outlook Express?) running while you are online and have it set to check your mail every one or two minutes. For Outlook Express do this in Tools>Options and put a tick in Check for new messages every X minutes. That will keep your connection "busy" while you are thinking. ;-) Hopefully either option will be successful, but if not then you can probably blame the net traffic. |
