75392 2002-08-31 22:38:00 Hi, can someone please give me the lowe down on the digital output from the back of a cd-rom. I notice that i only have a cord connected to the analouge output.
Whats it used for?
I have just a crappy onboard soundcard, could i use it?

75393 2002-08-31 23:33:00 you'd need a digital capable sound card (eg a Soundblaster Live!) and possibly also digital speakers (expensive), although I'm not sure on the digital speakers bit - you may get away with regular ones.

You'll only be able to use the digital output bit if you've got a digital input on your soundcard - they only have 2 pins, as opposed to the analogue input's 4 pins.

Mike.

75394 2002-08-31 23:53:00 Yeah - you'd need the 2pin connector as well - check inside your sound card to see if it has a digital socket. Remember though if you have both analogue and digi connectors, don't enable them both at the same time. Greg S (201)
