Here are some details of the bug: The default setting on the new driver and the old driver are both the same. The problem that is being identified is a bug that occurs when the AF settings are changed. It seems that once the AF slider is moved away from 0 to another setting, then back to 0 again, it triggers a bug that causes the control panel to misread the register setting. That setting is not point sampling, but it is something less than 0. The only way to "reset" back to true 0 is by reinstalling the driver or deleting the registry setting. We are going to fix this bug and others and submit the new BETA driver to WHQL, before the driver moves from BETA to "official". Also he had this to say: A lot of the improvements in performance that are seen are due to efficiencies in the driver code that controls vertex and pixel shader. That is why you see the jump in peformance for Nature and Aquanox. Those apps also happen to be the ones that are used for benchmarking. Red Hat Desktop Edition announced Red Hat is set to launch an enterprise-based desktop Linux operating system soon. The new OS will be much like their recently released Advanced Server offering and will be subscription-based. Read more details over at The Register (www.theregister.co.uk). Another DVD standard announced NEC and Toshiba have announced a new DVD standard to compete directly with the Blu-Ray standard announced earlier this year. The standard will be another blue-laser DVD standard. Here's a bit on it: A high-capacity replacement for current DVD technology has been announced by NEC and Toshiba. But the replacement will be incompatible with a rival technology proposed by nine other companies in February. NEC and Toshiba said in a joint statement that the new technology "will allow manufacturers to continue to use existing DVD plants and equipment and so minimize the investment required for the transition to next-generation DVD players and drives. Blue laser light has a wavelength of 405 nanometres, whereas a red laser has a 650-nanometre wavelength. The shorter wavelength means more data can be squeezed onto a conventional 12 centimetre-sized disk. The Toshiba-NEC technology would increase data storage capacity from the current 4.7 to 8.5 gigabytes to between 15 and 30 gigabytes, although a 40-gigabyte disk is also planned. Case modding madness leads to 1 dead and 3 Injured In a case of modding gone to dangerous extremes one person has died and three people were injured in an accident involving propane and guns. read more below: Waco, TX - Neon tubing and blow holes weren't enough for one local computer case modifier and now the deaths related to case modification are two. Just 12 days ago Carson City, Nevada teen Warren Botrey was killed in a house fire when the acetylene torch he was using to modify his computer case ignited his comic book collection and destroyed his home. This time the victim is Waco resident Sean Whitman. "He wanted a case that looked like it came from a war zone. I told him he was crazy, but that Sean is a visionary. First we took the case out back and shot it a few times with his pistol, but the holes weren't big enough to allow proper ventilation," said survivor Fred Willis. "After that we left Sean outside while we went to get some more brews. Next thing we know we're pulling glass out of our eyes." According to what police munitions experts can piece together Sean Whitman attached two large propane tanks to his computer case and began shooting. The explosion created some very large ventilation holes in his chassis, but unfortunately for Sean some very large holes in his torso also. Read more at iBelite (http://www.ibelite.com). These reports show what some people have had happen to them and how they fixed it: Hey, I don't know if it's just me but since installing the new Detonators (40.41). But trying to use the VIVO TV OUT on my GeForce 4 4200 (Prolink PixelView) to watch a DIVX file using Windows Media Player has resulted in no picture in Media Player. Everything else is normal just no picture. If I use Radlight though it works fine. Just curious if this happened to anyone else!. Russel sends word that the new Detonator 40's have yet an another feature: Macrovision protection. What this does is prevent movies to be displayed upon the TV, be it .avi, .mpg etc... However, I was able to watch a DVD movie using my TV-out yesterday, but some readers haven't been so lucky. Gargr mentioned that TV-Tool had an option to disable Macrovision, so I checked it out and wouldn't you believe that it works! Congrats to the guys at H.O.T for their awesome program. If this problem is common, then the old TV-Tool program may become very popular. Yeah, you had me going for a moment. It all came together when I read the bit about "NRA President Charlton Heston". Still, good moral of the story story. "Modify your case all you like, just resist the urge to become a crazed moron". |
