| 75259 | 2002-08-31 08:22:00 | That is fine, as the other post says, some of the hardware or even the basic programs your computer needs to operate will take up a little bit of your ram. This is normal and actually applies to a few things in your system. All ram is not exactly the same so the amount available for use will differ slightly on different computers. If it was way down to half or quarter of your ram then something is wrong and then its time to get it looked at......or ask one of us brilliant yet self effacing ( I think thats right ) friendly people to assist you. :) One thing I do recommend for your computer is a little program called Mpower (http://www.mindbeat.com/). This program can free up a section of your ram when things get slowed down and you have something happening that is very memory intensive. Most ram free up programs are continually running and can end up using more memory than they save but this one only frees the ram on demand ( when you click on it ) I installed this on a friends computer who was also running ME and 64Mb of ram and she tells me it has made a great difference. The idea is you click on the icon when your computer slows right down doing the big jobs or lots of little ones all at once. This will free up a bit more ram so your computer can eep doing what it needs to. Once you install the program choose the options and set the slide for free ram to about 1/4. Now choose the options tab and tick the box for rum Mpower on windows startup. Don't worry about the other options as most are window dressing or things you don't require. Also what do you have starting up when your computer does?? Have a look here for info on controlling startup etc. [url=http://dipstick01.hostnz.co.nz}Basic Computer Stuff[/url] |
