1287972 2012-07-12 01:07:00 Interesting. Don't expect there will be any massive changes, guess this includes all the cable tv customers etc too.

1287973 2012-07-12 01:12:00 So they are still going to have shocking customer service? nedkelly (9059)
1287974 2012-07-12 01:14:00 Spoke to a guy at Vodafone yesterday who gave me the heads up on that. He also said Telstra want to by Telecom but couldnt until they sold their own first, so watch for the next move if thats true. Iantech (16386)
1287975 2012-07-12 01:25:00 Wouldn't like to be a non techy worker at TelstraClear these days. Normally they are the first to go as the new owner takes over. paulw (1826)
1287976 2012-07-12 01:26:00 So we are back to a duopoly.
So mobile phone and broadband prices will stay just about the highest in the world.

1287977 2012-07-12 10:04:00 I think it still has to pass a commerce commission review before it's a done deal.

Curious situation, Telstra Australia sell Telstra Clear NZ to Vodafone. Telstra Australia then use that money to help them buy the even bigger company Telecom NZ.

You could argue that Vodafone is actually helping their compettitor to get even bigger.

Bleeding huge price they are talking about. No wonder our phone and internet in NZ is such a rip off! Approaching a billion dollars for a minor player in the market.

1287978 2012-07-12 10:53:00 Looks like Ihug didn't turn out to be the 'foot in the door' that they were hoping for. :) fred_fish (15241)
1287979 2012-07-12 12:35:00 It was very much a foot in the door, it got them into the home phone and broadband market. Buying the Telstra infrustructure instead of using telecoms (where possible) will help be more competitive (not saying it will be any better). If they start frigging around with my cable access there will be trouble though lol Iantech (16386)
1287980 2012-07-12 19:49:00 Back to the old Duopoly we had in the 1990's with mobile phones.
They kept the prices the same and did not compete for each others customers.

I think I will write to the Commerce Commision and remind them of this.
And yes if thy are paying too much for it, they won't be able to reduce their prices.
