| 1287251 | 2012-07-09 04:56:00 | OK - I see those ads running across my GMail page top - they seem to be centered on whatever is hot or currently in my email inbox and they appear to key on certain words to show me 'relevant' ads based on that metric. So I went to Ads Preference Manager and it says I am 'OPTED OUT' which means something totally different to me than what this gibberish below appears to mean::: Ads on the web You currently do not have an ‘id’ cookie. Opt in (this is a button that doesn't reproduce here) Opt in to customize your ad preferences and tell Google which interest-based ads you'd prefer to see. Google is a participating member of the Network Advertising Initiative and follows the industry privacy standards for online advertising . You can opt out of this cookie, as well as other companies' cookies used for interest-based ads, by visiting the aboutads.info choices page . If you want to persist your opt-out of interest-based ads from all NAI member companies, you can install the Keep My Opt-Outs plugin. It's that last line that amuses and confuses me - and I'm not taking any painkillers tonight - so there! What is an Opt-Outs plugin and if it opts me OUT then why am I seeing ads in the first place? This makes little-to-no sense to me. I have to DO something to not GET something? Reversi? |
