2012-07-13 03:45:00 | Yes, sorry I was not 100% correct there. I agree that with mobile there are 3 networks, as Gary says 2deggrees have their own in most areas. But the Commerce Commission set the Termination Rates which governs what 2Degrees can charge for connecting to other networks (unless they want to make a loss) As regards Broadband, its getting far too complicated for me to keep up with. How many undersea cables are there ? (one) How many fibre networks are there ? How many wireless networks are there ? And the governments ufb network confuses me as well. As it does most people too

2012-07-13 03:59:00 | How many undersea cables are there ? (one) Correct How many fibre networks are there ? LOTS! Citylink, FX, Telstraclear, Chorus, Vector, the list goes on! How many wireless networks are there ? Wireless as in what? Rural fibre? WiFi? Cellular providers? And the governments ufb network confuses me as well. What about it confuses you?

2012-07-13 04:48:00 | Re the governments ufb Why are the terms of the contracts the government has let out to different areas, companies different ? (I am just pleased that as I am in Tauranga, I will not be part of Telecoms ufb) And one other thing that confuses me is that at present I am with Actrix for my broadband. When the ufb passes by my place here in Tauranga will I be able to stay with Actrix and join up with them or will I have to swap ISP's.

2012-07-13 05:17:00 | Edit: I thought it was the other way around, and thought that Telstra had bough Vodafone. Thank god that's not true. | goodiesguy (15316) | |
2012-07-13 05:20:00 | Broadband: Telecom Vodafone Orcon Slingshot Xnet Maxnet Woosh Snap That's also more than two, and there are lots of other small players too... You forgot to add Trust Power Kinect to that list. We are with them for out net, and it is great, uncapped too.

Where is it, where does it go, who can access it, how much does it cost to use, can anyone use it. There has been zero advertising of the UFB it's like the Ghost chips it's there but its not there Yup thats the idea. As it stands, most people can't get it. When you can, you'll get something in your letterbox telling you that Chorus are doing some work down your street and that UFB will be available soon for you, with your provider of choice. Right now you can check out the likes of Orcon for some rough pricing ideas. Why are the terms of the contracts the government has let out to different areas, companies different ? Cost effectiveness? I'm not 100% sure to be frank. And one other thing that confuses me is that at present I am with Actrix for my broadband. When the ufb passes by my place here in Tauranga will I be able to stay with Actrix and join up with them or will I have to swap ISP's. Depends on if Actrix will be selling UFB, that's going to be up to them. There's nothing preventing any ISP from doing-so. |
