Maybe, there are several possibilities, a Silvereye could have mated with a Yellow Eyed Penguin...or...what was that yellow thing to the north of kathmandu ?....or it could be a Canary with circles under its eyes as described by Al Bowlly...

1288397 2012-07-14 06:49:00 Caught this having a meal in my Granny Smith tree couple of years ago, thought a few chomps and the apple would be gone but just made a hole in a few of them over a few weeks

Less destructive than those bloody Rosella's3996

Just to add,it's a North Island Kaka

When I first looked at the photo of the Kaka I thought it was a kea. From my experience with keas on Arthur's Pass they will chew the rubber around your car windows or windscreen wipers if you are not careful. I doubt if they have apple trees on Arthur's pass.

1288399 2012-07-14 10:37:00 Still looks like a wax eye but not a great photo. They like fruit, cut a kiwifruit and watch them go. There is usually more than two, it seems a bit odd in fact to just see two Ofthesea (14129)

1288401 2012-07-15 03:41:00 The wax eye loves to eat lard & millet mixed & strung up in a tree.
I feed them as they are real good at eating the aphids and other sucking insects in my garden.
You will find they are in family groups and will bring the young to feed on the lard mix.
